The India jewelry history goes back to more than 5000 years ago, touching the eras when the great epics of Mahabharata and Ramayana took place. The physical traces of some ancient Indian jewelry are found from the Indus Valley civilization. The initial jewelry was simple, made from beads, strings, and stones Indian necklaces are of different kinds, such as the hasli (a small collar neckpiece) or the longer kantha necklace. However, the most traditional of all is the mangalsutra, a necklace of black beads and gold worn by married women.
